Q: Can I install an electric skateboard conversion kit on my current longboard without specialized tools?
A: Yes—but you may need to drill holes. An electric skateboard conversion kit is designed for DIY installation using basic hand tools (Allen keys, wrench, screwdriver). However, since most kits don’t perfectly match every deck’s truck holes, you’ll usually need to drill new holes to mount the motor brackets or battery enclosure securely. The process still takes about an hour and doesn’t require specialized tools beyond a standard drill.
Q: What parts come in a typical electric skateboard conversion kit?
A: A standard electric skateboard conversion kit usually includes motorized trucks or belt-drive motors, a battery pack with enclosure, ESC (electronic speed controller), remote, charger, and all mounting hardware—everything you need to electrify your board in one box.
Q: How do I maintain an electric skateboard conversion kit once it’s installed?
A: Routine care is simple: keep the drivetrain clean, check belt tension (if belt-drive), inspect motor wires for wear, and store the battery at 40-60 % charge when not riding. An electric skateboard conversion kit is largely plug-and-play, so upkeep takes just a few minutes each month.
Q: Will an electric skateboard conversion kit change my board’s speed and range?
A: Yes—upgrading with an electric skateboard conversion kit typically boosts top speed to 20-28 mph and offers 10-20 miles of range, depending on motor wattage and battery capacity. Heavier riders, hills, and aggressive throttle use can shorten range.
Q: Is an electric skateboard kit a good choice for beginners who’ve never built a board?
A: Absolutely. A complete electric skateboard kit bundles pre-matched components, clear instructions, and color-coded connectors, so first-time builders can assemble a reliable electric board without advanced electrical skills.
Q: How do I pick the right electric skateboard kit for my riding style and weight?
A: Look at motor power (in watts) for hill climbing, battery amp-hours for range, and weight limits listed by the electric skateboard kit maker. Commuters often choose 500-800 W hubs for stealth and efficiency, while thrill-seekers opt for 1500 W belt drives for torque.
Customer Reviews
Actual feedback from our MAXFIND community. Real people, real rides.
This kit is really good! Even with my 77 kg, the acceleration is very good for 1500 watts of power, also having a very positive force! The braking is progressive or more abrupt, your finger will decide, I really liked it. This kit has another very good thing that practically none have, it allows you to change the battery in just 1 minute or less. In short, a very balanced kit in all aspects.
Absolutely thrilled with the Cyber Kit Belt! The compatibility with my deck is seamless, and I'm very satisfied with its impressive specs. A great purchase!
I’m not a tech guy or anything, but everything fit perfectly and the instructions were super clear. Took me like 15–20 minutes and boom — my board was upgraded and ready to ride. The motor runs smooth, super quiet, and has great torque. If you're thinking about upgrading without all the headache, this kit’s the way to go. Seriously impressed. 👊
I ordered from Belgium and received quick , battery was not the right one, but helpdesk responded also quick, now waiting if they speak truth about sending new one, but I fully trust the situation, board ride's smooth! But not 40 , a little less , definitely buy
Rate 9/10
Great kit easy to install super fast for a first time board user like myself only issue I have is they sent me a European power cord but that’s a super simple fix still giving it five out of five
Conversion takes less than half an hour if you know what you're doing; the instructions provided make it even easier. I like that the battery can be adjusted further or closer to the hub truck depending on foot stance preference. The wheels are the hubs so I'd recommend getting some cloudwheel or other type of rover like cover for the back! Seems really durable, the pieces fit together nice, hot swapping the battery feels like reloading; and the ride is always smooth. Personally I ride on top of 1/2 inch spacers and my deck is a snowboard, this is exactly what I needed for proper power, versatility, and durability!
So far I’m very impressed with this purchase. So much that I ordered a second one for my son. The kit I bought said the range is 21 miles. I rode off and on the first Saturday I had it and put 16.4 miles on it and still had 25% battery life left at the end of the day. So it would have put me right at their estimates. I thought that was pretty good considering in live in WV and weight 190lbs. I’d very much recommend this.
Had a blast! Definitely go for the extended battery. it breezed through uphill climbs at full throttle. Also, the dual-drive motors are remarkably quiet. Braking is smooth, unlike some cheap belt drives I've ridden (although belt drives generally have better torque). Overall, my experience with the M5 Kit was positive.
I'm loving the M5 kit! I attached the kit on a board I bought from my local skate shop. So far, it's been an enjoyable experience. It takes minimal time to get use to the remote, as far as the sensitivity of the acceleration and breaking. I love how I can reach fast speeds on my board, and it also comes in handy when commuting, especially when taking public transportation. Overall, it was worth the purchase for my official first electric skateboard, and I highly recommend this product to anyone considering purchasing it.
I had this kit for almost two years. I use it to get around everywhere in Seattle and it has been my daily transportation. Not only is the performance of the board great with the added flexibility of choosing the type of deck, wheels and other parts, Maxfind's customer support goes truly above and beyond. I had cases where my board sustained water damage from seattle’s unfortunate weather conditions and they were always willing to do their best in fixing the board free of charge. Recently, one of my motor gave out because even though I rode my board for only two years, I rode it hard. I was always accelerating hard with huge knobby and heavy wheels, going off curbs, etc along with the fact that it’s my main mode of transportation. Maxfind was willing to fix my board for a great price with fixes to little things as well that my board sustained for free despite those not being mentioned. If you want to keep your board for a long time and keep it working, please support Maxfind. I was not paid to say this, I am an avid fan of Maxfind as a company. This kit truly outperforms what I can say and the joy of riding around on an electric skateboard is quite indescribable until you experience it. Yes people say the battery life is short and I agree but that’s the point of the modular battery. It’s not something any other boards have out there where you can slide and change your battery without screws. Please, if you are uncertain, you can take my word that you will enjoy this purchase and many years after especially with how quick, informative, and helpful the customer service is at Maxfind.
Just arrived today in great packaging, attention to detail~
Installed on a street board (2019 Ben Hatchell -owl)
Overall Quality is outstanding!
Cloudwheels away from a “last mile”commute board :)
I'm all about personality, and the Maxfind M5 Kit allowed me to express myself through my skateboard. The core technology and design are top-notch, making it the best choice for skateboard enthusiasts like me
Great kit! This is my first electric kit so can't really compare. I've been longboarding for a long time and just wanted to add the kit to one of my decks. Works very well, seems pretty solid, battery case screw needs loctite or it will vibrate loose pretty fast. Other than that I only get about 20 kms out of the battery with some uphill (standard range battery with 35 kms claimed) but I'm heavier at about 220 lbs geared up so I imagine if you're lighter it should be quite a bit better. Had I known I would have bought the long range battery. Bushings also needed replacement and tweaking for my weight but that would be true on any set of trucks. Really fun and I'm satisfied with my purchase!
The M5 Kit is fantastic! Easy installation and smooth acceleration. The motor performs impressively, giving my skateboard an exhilarating boost. Love it!
The MAXFIND M5 Conversion Kit is a game-changer. This kit allowed me to transform my regular skateboard into a powerful electric ride with ease. The conversion process was straightforward, and the included instructions were helpful. The motor's performance is impressive, providing smooth acceleration and decent speed. The kit's quality is excellent, ensuring durability and stability during rides. The wireless remote control is intuitive and responsive, making it easy to control the speed and braking. Overall, the MAXFIND M5 Drive Kit offers a cost-effective and fun way to upgrade your skateboard into an exciting electric ride. Highly recommended!
It is very easy to install the M5 KIT to my long board!
Satisfied with the speed.
Smooth acceleration and braking.
Swappable battery is also a good feature.
All in all, I love it!
Bought this to spice up my old long board and I must say, it does not disappoint! Sleek and nice design, easy to install and more power than I thought! Cheers :D
Excellent kit... Perfect for commuting in a city where the hills can frequently reach 20% ..30%. Excellent control of the remote control in acceleration and braking... Coupled with Cloudwheels the MAXFIND M5 KIT is, it seems to me, perfect for urban skaters (cities are the real skatepark!!;)...
Bought this to put together with my son. He’s 12 and I was not expecting the skateboard to actually go as fast at it does. We are pleasantly surprised! Have so far only used it around the cul de sac but looking forward to longer trips once the snow melts more.
As far as putting it together, I wish the instructions were more clear. Took some trial and error to finally get everything together properly. I was also under the impression the device can reverse but I haven’t been able to figure out the controls on the remote for it. Seems like maybe we have the older version of the remote that controls directions. Also the screws were not quite long enough for the type of board we used (36 kicktail) I happened to have some extras so it worked out fine.
As a 56yo wanting a powered skateboard since I was about 12yo, this is literally a dream come true. I mounted the DYI kit to my 46" Sector9 cruiser and this is my first ride MOTORIZED!! I have been tearing up the neighborhood logging 6mi on my 2nd ride. I'm 250Lbs and this DIY kit handled all the hills in my neighborhood. Next upgrade are the Cloud Wheels! Level "2" speed is 15mph which for this old geezer is more than fast enough.
Super cool drive kit. the swappable battery is really the killer feature here, but it's quiet and reliable ESC, great range, good going and stopping power. some things to be aware of:
-if you order an extra battery they ship it separately, maxfind replied to me promptly with a tracking number for the extra battery
- the battery/esc case is attached with 6 screws, you don't need to drill through your board for the 4 that sit over the battery.
- put some nailpolish or threadlocker on the threads of the screw for the battery cover, it will prevent it from shaking out as you ride
Great ride, good power, and very smooth and easy to control. Only things I would critique are that I could change the remote speed to mph which I’m sure you can just haven’t figured it out and I have a slight rattle when I ride but I’m also sure that’s just me not fully tightening all the screws. Otherwise great product.
It's a very good investment, I'm not regretting it. It's now my main way of traveling through the city and I love it.
The + :
- The wheels are really big, allowing you to roll on bigger road cracks, anti skate ground, rocks, or pretty much everything that's not like 4 cm high.
- Long range battery is really good and lasting so far
- the remote feels confy in your hand, easy to accelerate and brake softly
The - :
- The removable part of the battery case (to change the battery) is extremely poorly designed. It's solid, for sure, quite heavy too, but it's also very, very, very loud when you first buy it : the foam that's supposed to separate the battery from the metal... Doesn't reach the right dimensions.
It allows the hood to move slightly back and forth, even when well closed. As it is metal, just imagine how loud it can get every time you have to roll on a ground that's not perfectly flat. It sounded like an old, broken car.
So I had to buy better, thicker foam, and cut it to the actually right dimension so that it would force the hood to stay put.
- But that's not it. The screw, supposedly used to close the hood... Was poor material as well. And that, was very dangerous. It came off all by itself WHILE I WAS SKATING and as it didn't do enough noise to cover the constant metal's commotion, I wasn't aware of it.
When I finally stopped skating I realised I had crossed pretty much the entire city without that screw, and the hood was a few millimeters from simply falling off. I'm very lucky that it didn't, especially while I was driving.
I had to buy a new screw, it looks ugly, but at least it's holding now.
- Battery overcharge, is a pain in the ass.
Recharging the skate while braking downhill, yeah, excellent idea.
Not having even just a small, additional battery charge reserve for it is a mistake.
What it means is, when your skate is full charge... You can't go downhill upon turning it on. The smallest use of the brake will result in overcharging and dammag8nd the battery.
So everytime you turn your skate on, you have to first, go uphill a few times, use the acceleration to empty the battery at least a bit, and only then can you go skating without having to watch out for the battery.
And that's insanely annoying.
(you can, of course, use your foot to brake like on any long board. But the motor makes the skate sooo heavy, I almost broke my ankle trying to do that. It's like trying to stop a train with a straw, it's not going to work out very well, and you risk to die xD)
Conclusion :
Upon buying it, you'll need at least 30-40$ more to invest in foam, better/longer screws (the original ones included to attach the motor on your deck aren't long enough) if you don't wanna ride on a noisy, woobly woobly, and potentially dangerous skate.
But once you settled all of these issue, once the skate finally goes silent with appropriate foam, once your not scared anymore of having your hood come off and rolling on it at 25km/h downhill, resulting on your first actual flight as a human being, well, once you fixed it to be as you thought it'd be upon buying it..
It reveals itself to be a really, really good vehicle. The dual motors allow you to roll uphill with extreme ease and better than what's advertised : 56° Hill was conquered at 15km/h and I think it's this motor's maximum. But that's already really, really great.
Brake is efficient, fast, acceleration is smooth, and powerful, remote is perfect, battery is really holding good.
So you'll struggle with it at first, for sure, but once resolved, it's a pleasure to roll on this baby.
The customer service was always fast to answer, and patient (I'm French and received a German manual, they were kind enough to send me another one by email) thanks to them for that.
